Walking Excursion “Modernism and Art Deco” | Together with the guide, you walk around the city, exploring the modernist history of the city. We are proud to invite you to our city, whose modernist architecture from the First Republic period has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. Contemporary Kaunas would not exist without the time when the city served as the temporary capital and “stood in” for Vilnius from 1919 to 1940. Overnight, Kaunas had to transform itself from a little town of the Russian Governorate to the capital that meets the European standard. The city needed to speed things up, invest, be united, and, most importantly, believe. For various reasons, different professionals born, living, working or studying abroad started coming to Kaunas and collaborating with residents, businesspeople and politicians. Offices, hospitals, schools, residential and industrial buildings, as well as other signs and centres of a modern (and modernist) city didn’t arise overnight, but… almost. Kaunas is increasingly focusing on its history, which usually hides in plain sight. Excursion will start at 10:00. It will take up to two hours. |

Walking Excursion “Get to Know Kaunas” | There are not dozens, but hundreds, maybe even thousands of places, objects, things and phenomena worth discovering in Kaunas. Of course, you can’t fit everything on one map or itinerary. This tour is the most KAUNASTIC of all, based on advice from locals, impressions from returning visitors and surveys of Kaunas residents. Get ready for a little bit of history, a pinch of modernism, a splash of art and culture, a handful of delicacies, a sip of entertainment and a pocketful of surprises. Excursion will start at 11:00. It will take up to two hours. |

Kaunas Ninth Fort Museum | Kaunas Ninth Fort Museum is today one of the largest monumental sites in Europe. This unique 50-hectare site is a memorial complex comprising a World War II mass murder site and a burial ground, as well as a memorial to Nazism victims. The museum presents Lithuania’s traumatic experiences of the mid-20th century in an authentic space that allows visitors to engage with, learn about and better understand the significance of this important historical period. It is a place of serenity that goes beyond the passive presentation of cultural assets and aims to educate society and promote historical awareness through a variety of cultural activities. |
